1934 - 2012

Cornelius "Corney" Hankins, 78 of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of the Pond Creek Area, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012, in the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, N.C.

He was born September 8, 1934, at Stone, Ky., the son of the late Estelle and Nesbith Goff Hankins.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sharline Grubbs, and nephews, Kenny Runyon and Cliff Anderson.

He was a retired salesman for the Bell & Howell Corp., a veteran of the U.S. Army and very active in the Special Olympics. Corney loved his family and often told everyone he met, Darlene and Sandy were his pride and joy. He was very excited to go to all of their events in Special Olympics. He was so proud of them. We were so blessed to have him as our husband and father.

Survivors include his wife, Joanana "Jodi" Stuart Hankins, daughters, Darlene and Sandra Hankins of the home, sister, Ernestine Runyon of Barberton, OH., nieces, Marge (Dick) Anderson of Alliance, OH., and Suzanne (Jeff) Snyder of Greenville, Mich., and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, December 17, 2012, in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, with Danny Scott officaitng. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
