Susan Boardman Goodwin was the wife of Admiral George Dewey, famous for his exploits in the Spanish American War. Susan was the daughter of former New Hampshire governor Ichabod Goodwin. Susan and George were married at the Gov. Goodwin Mansion on October 24, 1867. She died from complications of childbirth a week after their only son, George Goodwin Dewey, was born. George Dewey was heartbroken.
