Anna was the youngest of seven born to Joseph Louden and Mary McCrea who emigrated separately from Ireland as children, then met and married in Ontario.

After her father's death, her mother and three sisters moved south to the States. Anna and her widowed sister Rachel Louden McCrea moved to Massachusetts where they joined a nursing partnership with three other women.

In 1912 Anna married Willard B. Irish in Massachusetts but sadly died the following year during childbirth.
