OBITUARY: The Belleville Telescope, November 3, 1927
Elvin Chester Ball was born in Champaign county, Illinois, July 18, 1862, and departed this life Oct. 29, 1927 at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 11 days.
When he was but one year old his parents again returned to West Va., and later in 1870 at the age of eight they came to Kansas. Shortly after they came to Kansas his mother passed on to eternity. He then resided on the homestead with his father and step-mother until his marriage to Miss Mary C. Gooch of Belleville, Kansas, Oct. 11, 1885. To this union was born seven children, a daughter dying in infancy.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, four daughters, and two sons; Mrs. Pearl M. Kuhm, Mrs. Bessie L. Frey. Mrs. May Smith, all of Belleville, Kansas; Ralph E. of Rydal, Frank A., of Barnesville, Colo., and Miss Della at home; twelve grandchildren; one brother. W. S. Ball of Belleville, Kansas and an aged uncle, of Pasadena, Calif., besides a host of relatives and friends.
He was known by his neighbors as a man of sterling honesty. He resided on his home farm for thirty-six years and with this was an agent for the Republic Mutual Insurance Co., for twenty-five years, and the last five years, he worked with the Farmers' Union Insurance Co. Through all these years of work, he has won many, many friends.
He bore his sufferings without a murmur, and peacefully passed away. Services were conducted by Evangelist Amos Rundus. Interment in the Brethren Cemetery, southwest of Belleville.
