Composer. He wrote the music for Phillip Brooks poem "O Little Town of Bethlehem". Brooks poem is about his journey from Jerusalem to Bethlehem, where he assisted with midnight service in 1865. Brooks, Pastor at Holy Trinity in Philadelphia, wrote the poem to tell the children of his church about his visit to Bethlehem. Brooks asked Redner to compose a tune for his poem to sing at the Christmas service. Redner came up with the melody just hours before the Christmas Day service in 1868. The music and words make up one of the most beloved Christmas songs.
