Marvin Jerome Bacharach died Feb. 12, 2010, at the age of 86, surrounded by his large and loving family. He was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Clarksdale, MS, the oldest of two children to Phil and Ella Bacharach. Marvin was devoted to his parents and learned from them compassion, kindness, responsibility and the value of hard work.

He lived a rich, productive and eventful life. In Marvin's youth, he was an amateur boxer, enlisted in the U.S. Army's 13th Airborne Division during World War II and later enjoyed success as the owner of a clothing store in Clarksdale. He met the love of his life, Norma Pries of Memphis, TN, in late 1949. They married Jan. 8, 1950, and remained together for 60 years, raising five children who, in turn, would bless the couple with 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Marvin and Norma settled in Clarksdale, where Marvin served as president of the temple congregation.

In the early 1960s, he and two business partners opened a blood-plasma donor center in Oklahoma City, the city where Marvin and his family eventually moved in 1969. He would go on to own a dozen such blood plasma centers across the country before retiring in the early 1980s.

Marvin and Norma then moved to Wellington, FL, where they lived for nearly 20 years before returning to Oklahoma to be close to family. An avid golfer, Marvin also loved reading, watching sports and telling stories. Most of all, he loved his family and was devoted to them throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter Shaina Bacharach and her husband Robert Dick; Shaina's daughters Jennifer Hancock and Elise Fischbein; Jennifer's husband Terry and their son Austin; daughter Debra Olson and her sons Andrew, Stephen and Eric; daughter Bonnie Inman, her husband Michael, and their daughters Desiree, Jennifer and Heather; son Robert, his wife Rhonda, and their daughter Olivia; son Phil, his wife Marianne, and their daughter Audrey and son Max; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Phil and Ella; sister Hermine Basist; and son-in-law Edward Olson.
