Rose Jelalian Andrews 1925 - 2012 Rose Mary Jelalian Andrews, 87, former long-time resident of Havertown and human resources executive, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Quadrangle in Haverford, of complications from Parkinson's disease.
Born in Boston on November 2, 1925, she was the only daughter of the late Paul and Satenig Jelalian, who came to the U.S. from Armenia during W.W. I. Her father served in the U.S. Army during W.W. I and during the Depression, the family moved to Philadelphia, where they owned and operated the Boston Meat Market in West Philadelphia for many years.
Rose graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic Girls' High in 1943. The first in her family to attend college, she received a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1948. She married John M. Andrews of Brockton, MA in early 1957, and they had a son before divorcing a few years later. As a single mother, she began a long career at Scott Paper Co. (now Kimberly-Clark) in 1961, working initially as a groups benefits administrator and personnel services supervisor before moving on to manage the installation and operation of an automated personnel information system for the corporation.
By the early 1970's, she had mastered several programming languages and was promoted to Manager, Personnel Relations in 1973, a position she held until her retirement in 1984. Throughout her career, she was a mentor to many young women. Rose always enjoyed visiting the New Jersey shore. Following her retirement, she also travelled around the world, visiting such places as Egypt, Yugoslavia, Greece, Germany, and Canada.
She loved cats, reading, opera, politics and finance. She loved to laugh, doted on her son, and became a devoted grandmother to her 2 grandchildren. She will be remembered for her dedication to family and friends. Survivors: Rose is survived by her loving son Jonathan P. Andrews (Susan Gay); 2 grandchildren Katie Andrews and Paul Andrews; and several cousins.
