"Unsere liebe Schw.

General translation of Catharina Hausmann's obituary, published on 27 Sep 1871
in the German periodical, CHRISTLICHE BOTSCHAFTER -

“Our dear sister Katharina Hausmann died blessed in the Lord on 2 Sep at the age of 38 years, 6 months, in the birth-bed of a child [b. 2 Sep 1871], at Eagle Lake, Will Co., Ill. She was born in Bavaria of Catholic parents, came in her 12th year [circa 1845] as an orphan to this country, and was converted 14 years ago [in 1857, at age 24] at a camp meeting at Kuhn Grove [sic, Raccoon Grove, in Monee Township, Will County]. Since that time, she has lead a good life, and remained true to the Lord until her end. Her husband and 10 children feel painfully their loss; one child preceded her. The Lord comfort the survivors! - L. Glässer"

[Note: “L. Glässer/Glaeser” had been ordained as a Deacon at the Illinois Conference of the Evangelical Association (Church) held in Chicago on 13 Apr 1871. In the absence of the circuit-rider pastor, the child born by Catharina on 2 Sep 1871 (Heinrich Conrad August Hausmann) received an emergency baptism on 6 Sep 1871, from the Pastor of the nearby Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hanover Township, Lake County, Indiana. The child died on the day of his baptism. In the “spring of 1875,” Catharina’s family moved to Richland Township (Odebolt), in Sac County, Iowa,]
