Mr. Shields served in the 152nd Engineer Combat Battalion of the United States Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Shields; parents, Lorenza and Fannie Shields; brothers, Leland, Jewel, and Calvin Shields; and sister, Nealie Shields Cockburn.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Suzette and Kenneth Bell of Wartrace, TN, Linda Townsend of Crandall, and Delilah King of Crandall; grandchildren, Dennis & Peggy Townsend, Cindy Bell, Angela King, and Sonya Townsend; great-grandchildren, Brandon Townsend, Christopher Townsend, Meghan Townsend, and Heather Townsend.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.
