Alfred Kent Sweeney, 76, passed away at home in Layton on Wednesday November 28, 2012, due to heart failure. He was born April 6, 1936, to Wilfred Woodruff and Mary Simpson Sweeney in Kamas, Utah. Kent served in the Army from 1959 to 1961.

He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings, most recently as Counselor in the High Priest Quorum in Rolling Hills Layton Branch. He loved the gospel and sharing it with everyone. Kent also loved sports, especially BYU Football and Basketball. His grandkids called him their "BYU Grandpa". In his younger years he loved hunting and fishing in both Utah and Idaho.

Kent had two children, Wannetta and Robert D. Sweeney while married to Dorothy Annette Dees. He married his sweet wife Gayle on November 12, 2004 and was later solemnized for time and all eternity in Ogden Temple. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Moss Sweeney; brother, Willie Dee (Sally) of Las Vegas; son, Robert (Kate) Layton; step Children, Trisha Erickson (Greg) of Heber, Tracy Mulliner (Brad) of Beaverton, Oregon, Tadd Smart (Sue) of St. George, and Mike Thornock (Anita) of Brigham City; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; brother, Doug; sisters, Elaine Prescott, Mardeen Skelly, and LaMerle Vantassle; daughter, Wannetta Anne Lenoci, and stepson Troy Smart.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m, Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at the Rolling Hills Branch Chapel, 590 W Antelope Drive, Layton. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening, Dec. 4, 2012 at the Church from 6-8p.m. and on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, one hour prior to the services. Interment will be held in the Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations for the family will be accepted at Legacy Funeral Home (801-300-7992).
