Catherine Jane Secrist Chittum Mutispaugh, 72, of Buena Vista, died Tuesday, January 20, 1998, at her residence. She was born August 27, 1925, in Buena Vista, daughter of the late Otho and Virgie Humphries Secrist.

She was retired from Burlington Industries with 27 years of service. She was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy, Rockbridge Area Homemakers Club and the AARP

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Lawrence Chittum; grandson, James "Haden" Chittum and sister, Edna S. Link. Surviving are her husband, Junior R. "Gizmo" Mutispaugh; five daughters, Jane C. Wheeler, Margie T. Coffey, Brenda C. Moran, Linda Faye Chittum and Debbie C. Montgomery, all of Buena Vista; two sons, James H. Chittum and Stephen David Chittum, both of Buena Vista; stepchildren, Ronnie Mutispaugh, Ross Mutispaugh, James W. Mutispaugh, Roscoe Mutispaugh, Linda Mutispaugh and Brenda Mutispaugh; 10 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and sister, Lucille S. Sanderson of Buena Vista.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 23, 1998, at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Hawley officiating and burial in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, January 22, at Lomax Funeral Home.
