son of John Pierce (1807-1872) & Sarah Elizabeth Dean (1809-1869)

m. Catherine Williams(1828-1895) on 31 May 1849 at Hall Co, GA

William may have left his family in GA in the 1860's and gone with his brother James Harrison and his cousin Green Russell to search for gold in California and Colorado. There are many records for both James & Green about where they went, where they lived, and what they did. No mention is made of William being with them, but he is found in the 1880 census for Inyo Co, CA, the 1900 census for Jefferson Co, CO, and a death certificate was found for William in Inyo Co, CA. The death certificate indicates that he was buried at the IOOT Cemetery. It appears that his wife Catherine stayed in Georgia, and their children were scattered around Georgia and Missouri. His father's will in 1872 mentions that he doesn't know the whereabouts of William. His oldest daughter Margaret lived near him in Inyo Co, CA from about early 1900 until he died.

children of William & Catherine:
Henry Harrison Pierce (1850-1926)
Margaret Pierce Campbell (1852-1918)
Bartow Pierce (1855-1936)
Nancy E Pierce Bilke (1858-1897)
