NEW CARLISLE - Eldonna F. Runnels, 85, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at her daughter Gaynel Klimek's home in Ohio. She was born on August 13, 1927, to the late Russell and Bernice (Barley) Clark in Lewis, Indiana, and had lived in New Carlisle since 1929. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Thomas and Vernon Clark. Eldonna graduated in 1946 from New Carlisle High School. Mrs. Runnels was retired from Ralph's Bakery in New Carlisle, Indiana, where she worked as a baker for 14 years. On October 29, 1949, as Eldonna F. Clark, she married Paul "Herb" Runnels at Olive Chapel Church in New Carlisle, Indiana. He died on September 4, 2007. Eldonna is survived by her daughter, Gaynel Klimek (Clint Humbert) of Republic, Ohio; one granddaughter, Nicole Roberts of New Carlisle, Indiana; one great-granddaughter, Lilyan Roberts of New Carlisle, Indiana; two sisters, Sarah (Richard) Mesaros of South Bend, Indiana; Lillian (Gene) Zink of McIntosh, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Evelyn Clark of South Bend, Indiana; and several nieces & nephews. Eldonna was a member of Olive Chapel Church, American Legion Post #297 Auxiliary, New Carlisle Historical Society, Delta Beta Phi Sorority-Sigma Chapter, and the Daytimer Home Ec. Club, all in New Carlisle. She was a former Girl Scout leader for five years and during that time she went to Europe for a month with 5 of the Girl Scouts. Eldonna was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years at her church. She loved to bowl, garden, read, bake, and bird-watching. Private services will take place at a later date.
Burial will follow at Olive Chapel Cemetery in New Carlisle, Indiana.
