Actor. Born Julio César Onofre Lovero, he was also opera régisseur, lecturer, essayist and teacher of theater. He founded the Independent Theater, later "Teatro Payró", in 1952. He participated in the founding of the Union Cooperative of Independent Theaters and in 1972 shared the creation of City People's Theater in Buenos Aires. He co-founded the Association of Directors of Theater and was Chairman of Block of Latin American Artists, Vice President of the International Federation of Actors and of the Center of Creation and Research of Theater, and served as President of Asociación Argentina de Actores twice. He also was CEO of Proteatro (Institute for the Protection and Promotion of theatrical activity unofficial of Buenos Aires City). He translated and adapted plays, received numerous awards as: the Leonidas Barletta for best actor, the "Fondo Nacional de las Artes Grand Prize" for Lifetime Achievement in 1992, the "Maria Guerrero", "Prensario", "ACE" for best direction in 1996, "Florencio Sánchez" for best director, "Gregorio de Laferrere" for Lifetime Achievement, "Ollantay", "Mecenas" in 1998, "Podestá" award, and was honored as Ilustrious Citizen of Buenos Aires City in 2005. He was considered one of the fathers of independent theater in Argentina.
