Adonia Louise O'Brien Fenner, aged 89, died November 30, 2012, while a patient at Kindred Care in the Detar Hospital in Victoria, Texas after a short illness.
Mrs. Fenner, who resided in Port Lavaca and Calhoun County for 61 years, was born on November 15, 1923 in Edna, Texas to Laurence F. and Mary Louise O'Brien. She married Roy Fenner, her husband of more than 52 years, in 1943. During World War II, she worked in Victoria, then in College Station while her husband was in veterinary school. In 1951, they moved to Calhoun County and established the county's first veterinary practice, for which she was the office manager and assistant.
On moving to Calhoun County, she became active in Our Lady of the Gulf's Altar Society, including as serving as its president. Later in her career, she obtained an associate's degree from Victoria College and then worked as a realtor in the office of Walter Maguire Realtors. While an active realtor, she was a member of the Calhoun County Realtor's Association, also serving as its president. In addition, for many years she served on the Calhoun County Library Board. She was also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association's Auxiliary Society. At the time of her death, Mrs. Fenner was a resident of Trinity Shores.
Her parents, her beloved husband (Roy), her three brothers and her grandson, Charles Montier, all preceded Mrs. Fenner in death. She is survived by her six children: Kathleen (Woody) Montier, Janet (Ralph) Masson, William Fenner, Michael (Terry) Fenner, Frances Grubert, and Mark (Robin) Fenner. In addition, three grandchildren survive her; James (Laura) Montier, Rachel Fenner, and Roy Fenner. Her step-grandchildren; Dennis (Lara) Masson and Terry (Jeff) Burton also survive her.
A rosary will be held at Richardson Colonial Funeral Home at 7 PM on Sunday, December 2, 2012. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church at 10 AM on Monday, December 3, 2012 with burial to follow in Port Lavaca Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following: Calhoun County Library, Calhoun County Humane Society, Calhoun County Ministries Food Bank, or another charity of your choice.
