Amelia Anna (Anna Emilie) Thierry was born to Frederick and Louise (Mettey) Thierry, in France, 21 January 1872. At an early age her family traveled to America and settled in the Defiance, Ohio area, where Louise spent the majority of her life. Anna married William Henry Altorfer on 8 March 1892. Their first child, Ada (Aida) Altorfer, was born June 1892 but died 3 months later on 2 September.
The following year (5 October 1893), she gave birth to a son, Floyd William Altorfer. A few weeks following the birth of Floyd, her husband William, died of Typhoid Fever at age 26 years 6 days (26 October 1893). Anna then married Preston Hightower, on 1 Dec 1894 but within a few years the two separated. In her later years she moved to
live with her son and daughter in law, Frances Louise Graves, in Vermont where she lived until her death on 9 Jan 1961. She was buried in Sherwood Cemetery, Defiance, Ohio the following spring.
