George C. Bland, age 75, of Indiana, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born 1937 in Cresson, to Richard Parks and Eleanor Duncan Bland.

George was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1989, the American Legion Post #141, the BPOE Lodge #931, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also involved with the Indiana Touchdown Club for many years.

A veteran of the Viet Nam War, he served in the US Navy for 12 years, having served on USS Intrepid, and was stationed at the VS-27 Air Station, Norfolk, VA, and the US Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, VA as the Personellman for Admiral John S. McCain, Sr.

He was employed by Robert Shaw Controls for 6 years, and was later employed as a salesman for McGregor Motor Co. for 25 years. He also was employed with Indiana Sales and Service. After retirement from car sales he was employed by Diamond Drug as a driver.

George is survived by his wife of 54 years Joan Martinak Bland, Indiana; two sons and two daughters, Donna Lake and husband Gary, Weston, WV; Patti Stoudt and husband Gary, Indiana; Rick and wife Rona, Indiana; Chris and wife Tammy, Rural Valley; nine grandchildren; David Wells III, Chelsea Bland, Jordan, Sara, and Ian Lake, Megan and Christopher Parker, Sara and Scott Stoudt; great granddaughter Gemma Lynn; and by one sister June Hampton and husband George, Ocala, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by his infant daughter Diana, by his step-mother Viola Bland, and by one brother Thomas.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux, R. C. Church, with the Rev. Fr. William Kiel the celebrant. Entombment will be made in the St. Bernard Mausoleum. Graveside military services will be provided by the VFW Post #1989.
