Mr. Carroll E. Fruits, 78, of Crawfordsville, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Williamsburg Nursing Home Crawfordsville. Born on December 21, 1933, at Crawfordsville he was the son of Henry O. and Meredeth Steele Fruits.

He graduated from Marshall High school and enlisted in the Army National Guard where he attained the rank of Sergeant.

He married Vesta I. Cotten on March 8, 1953, and she predeceased him on July 31, 2008. Mr. Fruits worked for the US Postal Service and after 30 yrs. retired in 1992 as the Post Master at Waynetown. His memberships include the Waynetown Baptist church, Waynetown American Legion and New Richmond Masonic Lodge. He never knew a stranger and loved antique tractors.

He is survived by a son, Randy (wife: Sue) Fruits, of Crawfordsville; daughter, Diana (husband: Ron) Snellenbarger, of Wingate; three brothers, Curtis Fruits, of Darlington, Gary (wife: Janet) Fruits, of New Market, Ind. and David (wife: Jo) Fruits, of Springfield, Ind.; one sister Marsha (husband: Eddie) Carpenter, of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren, Cameron Snellenbarger, Kelli (husband: Marc) Welch, Wesley (wife: Dominique) Fruits, Kayla Fruits and Bailey Kiger; and five great-grandchildren and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 29th at Shoemaker Funeral Home Waynetown; the Rev. Ron Raffignone officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North in Crawfordsville. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and there will be masonic rites at 8 p.m.
