Donald E. Matson, Fargo, ND, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the age of 85, in his home with his son and daughter by his side.

Donald was born August 22, 1923, to Andrew and Olga (Swanson) Matson in Fargo, North Dakota.

He joined the Air Force and served in the 82nd Airborne during World War II. He returned to Fargo, where he graduated from North Dakota State University.

Don married Marcie Syverson September 16, 1955, in Fargo. He was a member of the North Dakota Air National Guard where he worked for 34 years as an air technician, running the flight simulator and also managed the NCO Club. He achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant when he retired.

Don loved Marcie's cooking, playing the piano, golfing, the lake and spending time with his family and friends. He had a unique talent for singing, entertaining and putting a smile on faces of family, friends and everyone he met.

Don is survived by his son, Rick; daughter, Tami (Ed) Manska; sister, Grace Vaught, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcie; son, Scott, and daughter, Tanya; his brother, Byron; and sisters, Mae, Helen and Lilah.

Memorial Service: Monday, August 10, 2009, at 10:00 AM, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
