Ruth C Barkhurst 96 died on Monday November 26, 2012 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Friday November 30, 2012 at the Henderson Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.
Visitation will be from 5-7p.m. Thursday November 29, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or American Cancer Society.
Ruth was born on March 30, 1916 near West Liberty, the daughter of Ray and Mary Barnes Rockafellow. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1933. On June 5, 1935, she was united in marriage to Harold Barkhurst in West Liberty. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1991.
She had been employed with Proctor and Gamble in Iowa City for over 20 years, retiring in 1977. She enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, playing cards, and spendingtime with family and friends.
She was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Miller and husband Fred, and Wands Jarrard and husband Wayne both of Atalissa, a son, Kenneth Barkhurst and wife Diane of Huntley Illinois, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and five (one expected) great great grandchildren,
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, and sistersinlaw, Lowell and Irene Rockafellow and Lester and Nadine Rockafellow.
