Heart attack causes unexpected death of Mrs J.W. Baird.
Mrs. Adelaide (Ross) Baird passed away Saturday evening at her home in Logan. Funeral Services were held from the Asbury Methodist Church, Wednesday with Rev. Alsobrooks conducting the services. Troups Funeral Home had charge of the services with interment in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, Kansas.
Singers were Mrs Beatrice Templeton, Mr. & Mrs. Jules and Walter Lappin. They were accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Polly Bales.
Pallbearers were AG Cummings, Norman Wiltrout, Dane Gray Bales, Ward Hutchinson, Vance Templeton and Max Donahey.
Adelaide Ross Baird, daughter of Effie and Elwood Ross, was born June 10, 1897 at Beloit, Kansas. The family moved to their farm southeast of Logan when she was 5 years old. On Dec 3, 1924 she was married to James Wesley Baird and they established their home in Logan. One son was born to this union.
She departed this life Jan 10, 1953. The immediate family survivors are her husband, Jim, and their son and his wife, Leland and Betty, and their two small daughters Dedra and Mari Marlo; her mother, Mrs Effie Ross, all of Logan, Kansas; and her sister and husband Charlotte and Stanley Mitchell of Sacramento, California.
Adelaide's early ambition was realized when she enrolled as a piano student at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. After returning home she was for many years the popular and beloved teacher of a large class of piano pupils. Her services as a pianist were most generously given wherever and whenever needed.
Her friendship was freely given to young and old. She was an active participant in the church and social life of the community and her unusually keen interest in young people found many outlets.
She had been a loyal worker in the junior department of the Methodist Church Sunday School, serving as superintendent for several years.
She has held many offices in the various organizations of the church and at the time of her death was a member of the official church board and treasurer of Benevolence and World Service.
She was a past president of the Woman's Club and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served many years as organist of Alpha Chapter No. 248 Order of the Eastern Star. She was past Matron of the chapter and had been a District Aide in the Grand Chapter of Kansas.
