Clara Estelle Shafer Benedict died Wednesday August 23, 2000 in a Houston hospital at the age of 85. She was born May 31, 1915 to James E. and Robbie Ann Shafer in Chamal Tamaulipas, Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Benedict, her parents, sisters Lula Callaway, Bertha Klingaman, and Emma LeRue, and brothers Billy Shafer and Leslie Shafer.

Mrs. Benedict is survived by three children Charles E. (Sonny) Benedict and wife Evelyn of Bell Bottom, Ann deSteiguer and husband Jerry of Yoakum and Kay Meador and husband Don of Houston, nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, sisters Laverne Stevens of Bay City, Annie Titt of Van Vleck, brother Robert E. Shafer of Bay City.

Mrs. Benedict was a homemaker and worked for many years as a rental property manager. She was a member of the Church of Christ. A. W. and Clara were married June 16, 1937 and celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage until the time of his death.

Services will be Saturday, August 26, 2000 at 10 a.m. at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Crowe, the Rev. Don Meador, and Dr. Conrad Winborn officiating. Pallbearers will be Kelly Benedict, Mike Benedict, Mark Meador, Todd Meador, Bob Kelly and Clint Kelly.
