death cert records have born Vernon Co, MO, birthdate of 10 Sep 1853 , but it gives age as 69 yrs, 11 mos, 16 days, which a line is drawn through the 11 mos, 16 days(figures out to 25 Sept 1849) 1900 census has Apr 1848 born in TN. So seems nobody knows for sure when or where
Informant on dc was son George Abbott, but he didn't seem to know much about him.

There are several James F. Abbott's of same age getting all mixed up
