He enlisted in the military on July 28, 1918 and was Honorably Discharged on December 10, 1918. He served in the state of Washington, but did not go to Europe. He reportedly had flat feet and was discharged with a government pension.
Robert was in and out of Veteran Administration hospitals, but spent a lot of time in last five years with his sister, Jewell Deaton. He was 70 years, 3 months and 22 days old when he passed away on a couch at Jewell's home in Salinas, California.
Robert married (1) Mary Watkins in February 1923. One child, Mary, born Sept. 9, 1924; died at age 2 or 3 place unknown. He married (2) Birdie Alexander of Adamson, Oklahoma on Sept. 7, 1933 at Dow, Oklahoma. It is reported that Birdie's son, Clifford, took Easley name but was never adopted. He went into United States Army as an Easley.
Robert was interred at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 768 Abbott Street, Salinas California 93901.
