Valentine Kratz, farmer and minister, was born around 1754, the son of John Ktatz and Anna Clemens. He married Anna Lederach some time around 1877, and they had ten children, four of whom were born in Canada.
In 1799, Valentine led a group of Mennonites from Bucks County Pennsylvania who settled and farmed around Jordan Station in the Niagara region.
He was elected a Minister by the Community in 1801, the first Mennonite minister to be ordained in Canada. He died in 1824 and was buried at Vineland.
