He was born on July 25, 1927, in Staunton, Virginia, the son of Emory Reese and Dorothy Mercereau Willson of Staunton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Emory Reese Willson II and Percy Hunt Willson II; and his sister, Elizabeth Willson Mattox.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Baxandall Willson; three children, Harriett Willson Bosiack and husband, Gregory Bosiack, of Beaufort, South Carolina, Edward Mercereau Willson Jr. and wife, Julie Willson, of Eugene, Oregon, and Thomas Barrett Willson and wife, Georgia Willson, of Dunnellon, Florida; five grandchildren, Willson Gregory Bosiack, Ann Powell Bosiack, Sarah Bosiack Ross and husband, Joseph Ross, Edward Mercereau Willson III and Katherine Brannon Willson; and two great- grandchildren, Anna Chase Ross and Edward Willson. Edward graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and Washington and Lee University. He served in the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Percy Willson Pharmacy at Augusta Regional Free Clinic, P.O. Box 153, Fishersville, VA 22939 or Washington and Lee University.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2012, at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Staunton.
The service will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Staunton, Virginia, followed by a graveside service at Thornrose Cemetery
