Dorothy Searcy Balentine, 81, Hammond, Ind., died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Akins Funeral Home in Russellville, Ala. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Akins Funeral Home chapel, with burial in Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Officiating at the funeral will be Brother Coy Marbutt. She was born in Colbert County, Ala. She is survived by her son, Charles Balentine, Hammond, Ind.; sisters, Gertrude Hawkins, Hobart, Ind., Ruth Smith and Johnnie Vandiver, both of Russellville, Ala.; brother, Louie Searcy, Mulga, Ala.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Balentine; and sons, Terry Balentine and Larry Balentine. Pallbearers will include Gary Smith, Bill Smith, Dwayne Smith, Eddie Searcy, Donnie Vandiver and Jimmy Carl Balentine. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church in Hammond, Ind. Akins Funeral Home is directing.
