BOONEVILLE - Lucille Tays Pounds, 73, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Booneville to Rodney A. and Birdie Hanley Tays. She was the widow of Theron S. Pounds who she married Dec. 28, 1944. She was a graduate of Booneville High School and Northeast Mississippi Community College. In her earlier years, she worked in the offices of the Chancery Clerk, the. Circuit Clerk, the sheriff of Prentiss County and in the nursing profession. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had been a Sunday School teacher. She was a charter member of the Booneville Garden Club and served two terms as president. She was a charter and life member of Booneville Junior Auxiliary. She had served two terms as president of Ladies Activities of the Booneville Country Club, and she was instrumental in the first organization of Girls Scouts in Booneville in the early fifties. She enjoyed working with flowers and fishing. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Saundra Pounds Smith; and one sister, Nellie Ben Tays Ladd.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Hankins and Bro. J. A. Thornton officiating. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Stan Pounds and his wife, Wilda, and Jim Pounds and his wife, Susan, all of Booneville; four grandchildren, Jason Walden of the U. S. Air Force in Minot, N. D., Evan Pounds, Seth Pounds and Kala Pounds, all of Booneville; one brother, Jim Tays of Dallas, Texas.
