THIS BOY STOOPS TO CONQUER AIR RULE
Emmett F. Blakemore Jr. who a year ago was "too tall" for the United States Army Air corps, Saturday was preparing to enter the final 10 weeks of his air training at Kelly field.
Blakemore, then a young geology instructor at Southern Methodist university, was turned down by Air corps examiners who held his six-foot-three to be an inch too tall for the service.
Returned home, Blakemore practiced a deliberate "slump" before his mirror until his "natural" height was a mere six-feet-one-and-one-half and then he enlisted.

SAN ANGELO, Tex., July 18. -
Captain Emmett Blakemore, Jr., 28, flying instructor, and Aviation Cadet Richard L. Adler, 22, both of Goodfellow Field, were killed five miles north of the field today in a plane crash.
Blakemore was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Blakemore of Dallas. Adler was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Adler, Joliet, Ill.
Blakemore last week was promoted to the rank of captain. He was married, his wife residing here. He was graduated from Southern Methodist University and obtained his advance training at Kelly field, completing the work in 1940.
Notes:
In August of 1942, his wife, Jane De Crow Blakemore filed an application for a government flat granite military grave marker to read:
"Emmett F. Blakemore, Jr., Captain, Army Air Corps, d. July 18, 1942".
The cemetery was named as Hillcrest Memorial, Dallas, Texas.
Joyce Jane Decrow was the daughter of Thomas W. Decrow and Joyce Laura Stanfield. They had only recently married.
