Darlene Renee Allsup, beloved mother and grandmother, received her angel wings after passing away peacefully on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Fountain West Care Center in West Des Moines, IA.

Darlene was born April 9, 1928 in Carroll, Iowa to Ralph and Garnett Bilsten. She attended Westside High School and moved to Des Moines shortly after graduating. She married Gene Eittreim and was mother to three children, Steve, Greg and Cathy. In early years Darlene worked for Paul Revere Insurance, Cadco and R&C Office Supply. Later she remarried and was a homemaker, raising five step-sons, Kevin, Brian, Danny, Randy and Scott Allsup.

Anyone who knew Darlene realized she was a very special lady and when you walked in her room it would bring a smile to her face. Even with all the medical issues she faced over the past 25 years, she always had a smile on her face and never complained. She was always there for us. Her favorite line was "this getting old is for the birds." Darlene loved to garden while living on the farm and to read (especially her mystery cat stories). She was always ready for a game of cards or playing a practical joke. She loved spending time with her family and watching the great-grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her mother and father, sister, Audrey and brothers, Ralph, Jack, Billy, and nephew, Doug. She is survived by her children, Steve (Debbie) Eittreim, Greg (Lisa) Eittreim and Cathy Fosselman; grandchildren, Shannon (Chris) Mart, Melissa (Rick) Krug, Michael and Eric Eittreim, Renee (Dan) Welk, Kris (Marcin) Kolesinski; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis (Bob) Gerkin and Sharon Kirk as well as many nieces and nephews. She is loved and will be truly missed, but now will be able to join her family in heaven with no more sickness or pain.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 18 at Merle Hay Funeral Home with the family greeting friends one hour prior, beginning at 2 p.m.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Fountain West for the special care Mom received from them that went "above and beyond" during the past 2 1/2 years she stayed with them. In addition the family would like to thank Judy Winkelpleck and the staff from Iowa Hospice that gave us the needed support through this very difficult time.

Memorials may be made to Fountain West Health Care, Iowa Hospice, or to the Waukee Library who would drop off and pick up books for Mom when she could no longer get to the library herself.
