Archeologist-Geologist-Historian Gary Joiner, Phd. (of the LSU System) has examined this and other photos and believes strongly that the obelisk on this plot denotes, as it should, the head of the family. Since William P. Evans is buried just to the left of the Obelisk and he has a headstone and the remainder of the other four markers are of his family, the obelisk is not his marker.
The obelisk sits on the sixth space. Dr. Joiner believes that Charles Evans is buried under the obelisk which is marked only by the name "Evans". If GPR (ground penetrating radar) can be obtained and verifies that under the obelisk there is ground distrubance consistent with an adult burial, it will prove this site as the grave of Charles Evans.
Microfilm (FHC Microfim#0015175, Hinsdale Town Records, Vol. 1, pg.561) from NH shows that Charles Evans, born 4 JAN 1785, was one of seven children born to John Evans and his wife Rhoda Gibbs Putnam. His first wife and the mother of his children was Abigail Morgan (1788 NH-1823 NH). After Abigail's death, Charles moved his family from Hinsdale, NH to Jefferson Co, NY near both his parents who resided in Evans Mills, NY and Abigail's parents who resided at LeRay, NY.
Charles Evans was a farmer by trade and he and Abigail were the parents of:

Near the end of the Civil War 1865, Charles Evans is found to be living with a nephew (Hiram Evans) in Theresa, Jefferson County, NY, then in 1870 he is found living with Sylvanus Evans in Quitman, MS. In Judge Jason Niles' (of Kosciusko, MS) diary, he tells of the death of Sylvanus' father at WP's house in 1874. At that time WP (William P. Evans) still resided at Marion, MS in Lauderdale County.
