Wallace A. Ecklein, 80, a former Arlington SD mayor, died May 19, 1988 in Mesa AZ.

"Wally" Ecklein was born December 1, 1907 in Salem SD, to John Albert and Edith J. Ecklein. He moved to Arlington as a young boy. His mother, Edith, passed away on May 2, 1914.

He married Mary Irene McCune in 1930. Wallace and Irene lived in St. Paul, MN before moving to Arlington in 1942. Together they operated the Arlington Bakery for nearly 30 years. Irene passed away on November 17, 1972, while wintering in Mesa, AZ.

Mr. Ecklein was active in community activities, serving as member and president of the Arlington school board. A former mayor of the city, he also served several years on the city council.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Ecklein of Mesa, AZ; two daughters: Diann Peters of St. Croix Beach, MN. and Kathy Paulson of Bay City, MN: two stepchildren: Gloria Thorpe and Larry Partzek of Wisconsin, a brother, Howard Ecklein of Salem; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his first wife, Mary Irene in 1979; his parents; one brother, Kermit of Smithfield, VA in August 1974; and a half brother, Dean of Richfield, MN in April 1973.
