Robert was born Miami Springs and lived there all of his life. He attended Hialeah High School
where he played the clarinet with the marching band. He had a Cushman motor scooter that he used to deliver the local newspaper.
Robert enlisted in the Marines 17 June 1965 at a Jacksonville Recruiting Office and took his boot camp training at Parris Island MCRD.
Upon arriving in Vietnam Robert was assigned to Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Robert died as a result of a gunshot wound to the right posterior
thorax from hostile rifle fire, at Hill 881N, and kilometers west northwest of the Khe Sanh Airfield.
Robert was single and served his country for 1 year,10 months and 13 days and was KIA#11,684.
Tour of duty unknown.
Robert was 19 years, 5 months and 8 days old.
Survived by his parents, William Albert and Elizabeth Tubbs Cornell and his brother, Alan Lee Cornell of 6650 Lafayette Dr, Miami Springs, Florida.
A few years after the death of their son the Cornell family moved back to their home state of Georgia.
