Elijah is son of Joseph King Potts and Margaret WHITE.
He married Margaret Hawk (daughter of Godfrey & Charitta Hawk), November 10, 1855, Baptistown, Kingwood, Hunterdon NJ.

He filed his Civil War Draft Registration, July 1863, Franklin Twp. He served in Civil War, Union, Enlisted as a Corporal, 3 September 1862.
Enlisted in Company D, 30th Infantry Regiment New Jersey 17 Sep 1862.
Mustered Out Company D, 30th Infantry Regiment NJ, 27 Jun 1863, Flemington, NJ.

The 1900 census indicates he was a mail carrier and they had 6 children, 5 living. Their daughters were Mariva W, Bell, Mary Belle, Bertha 'Birdie' May

November 20, 1905 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

When he died, was survived by wife and 5 children - Forman Hawk, Godfrey Hawk, Mary Belle (Mrs. Wlliam B. Bowen), Bertha/Birdie May (Mrs. Peter W. Fisher), Mariva W. (Mrs. Mulford B. Culver).

A Civil War pension was filed in 1884 registering him as an invalid; and for his widow Margaret, June 5, 1907.
