Winston enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 8 September 1862 at Salyersville, Kentucky. He was mustered on 8 September 1862 as a Sgt. in Company G, 5th Kentucky Mounted Infantry. He died as a prisoner of war at Camp Chase, Ohio of pneumonia on 20 February 1865.
Additional Information: Winston Lemaster was a private in Company C, 5th Kentucky Infantry. Winston "Wince " Lemaster was born abt. 1835 in Morgan Co., KY, and was the son of John Lemaster and Judy Christian. He married Nancy Emaline Stacy.
According to Winston's Military records, he deserted the Co. and was captured in Maynardsville, Tennessee (along with his brother, also a member of Co.C). Winston was then taken to Camp Chase where he died on February 20, 1865. His brother Merida Lemaster died there as well.
