Maggie was the daughter of S. B. and Mary E.McMillen, who were started a tourist business, Winter Travel, and they traveled together in a covered wagon from Ohio to Tallahassee, then deciding to settle in Tallahassee.

In 1900, Maggie met and married Drew Crawford Adams, who was a photographer from Wakulla County. They opened a photography studio, Adams Photography on College Avenue in Tallahassee, Florida.

Maggie ran the dark room and Drew took photographs and portraits, while their son, Sam Adams, traveled outside the studio to take portraits of students at various schools and at the Florida State College for Women.
