Wiley, whose name means "the enchanter", was one of many alley cats I cared for in the parking lot of our office building. I was compelled to rescue him in the autumn of 1997.

His disposition was gentle, sweet and loving. He had the markings of a Bengal Tiger and the six toes (double thumbs)on his white front paws looked like mittens, giving him a Tigger-like appearance.

In the morning, Wiley would take his place on the kitchen chair and wait for me while I prepared coffee. He allowed me just enough space to sit so he could stand and put his arms around my neck while I drank. At the computer, he would cling to me the same way. If I had to get up, he wouldn't let go and I would walk around the house with Wiley still clinging to me, his purr-motor roaring! Often, if I were absorbed in reading or watching TV, he would sit quietly next to me and stare, patiently waiting for eye-contact until I noticed. Then his eyes and face would light up and he would snuggle up - as if he needed my permission!!

He was the last of my five to depart and is now with Romeo, Blondie, Tsunami and Kiwi in God's care and power. I can only pray that when the world and universe are restored as promised, our beloved companion animals will be returned to us to make our joy complete.
