Edward Gilman Aaberg, son of Gilman and Clara (Berg) Aaberg, was born March 18, 1931 in Blue Mounds Township in Pope County, Minnesota. He was baptized at home and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He grew up and attended school in Starbuck. Following his schooling, Ed enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge and moved to Minneapolis for a short time, before moving to California, where he was a truck driver for many years. Ed later moved back to Starbuck and worked for his nephews at the Redi Mix Plant. On March 5, 1984, he was united in marriage to Bernice Berg. The couple continued to live in Starbuck.
Ed enjoyed playing cards, fixing and repairing things, cooking and listening to country music.
Ed died on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 75 years.
He is survived by his wife: Bernice Aaberg of Starbuck; two children: Cindy (Lyden) Moreland of Livermore, CA and Russell (Michelle) Aaberg of Patterson, CA; four step-children: Gene (Karen) Berg of Parker, AZ, Cheryl (Brent) Shelton of Alexandria, VA, Becky (Fred) Nelson of Livermore, CA and Ron Peaerson of Colorado; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Palmer (Joy) Aaberg of Starbuck and five sisters: Gladys (Clarence) Braaten of Onamia, Doris (Grant) Thompson of Starbuck, Lillian (Arvid) Flaten of Starbuck, Tina (Julian) Hanson of Salinas, CA and Hilma (Harris) Larson of Starbuck. He was preceded in death by his parents; three step-daughters: Annette Swensrud, Beverly Berg and Janet Berg; five brothers: Clarence, Russell, Arnold, Wallace and LeRoy and one sister: Dorine Thompson.
Pallbearers for the service are: David Fricke, Dick Thompson, Allan Aaberg, Paul Aaberg, Kurt Swensrud and Mander Thompson. Honorary pallbearer is Larry Pederson. Monica Gosseling will serve as organist for the service with Joy Smith serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
