Gladys was the daughter of Orion and Rilla Fulk Turney. She graduated from Cerro Gordo High School, attended Normal School in Bloomington and received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Millikin University in 1954. She began teaching in a one-room school near Milmine and taught first grade in and near Decatur until 1968. She moved to Sun City in 1968 where she was an active member of Sun City United Methodist Church and various Sun City organizations. She married Cyril Henricks in 1931. He preceded her in death. She married Roy Waltz. He preceded her in death in 1970.
