Mary V. Griego, 90, of Aztec passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in Farmington, at San Juan Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 2, 1914, in Tierra Amarilla to Delfido Je Jesus Valdez and Maria del Rosario Martinez.
Mary is survived by her son, TJ Griego (Mary Jane), of Aztec; four daughters, Sylvia Macias (Jesse) of Aurora, Colo., Irene Mascarenas (John) of Peoria, Ariz., Mary Rose Keil of Grand Junction, Colo., and Pat Arnold (Michael) of Aztec.
Additional survivors include one sister, Dora Ferran of Provo, Utah; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tranquilino Griego in 1983 and several brothers and sisters.
A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. this evening, Friday, Dec. 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 424 N. Mesa Verde in Aztec. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Joe Blonski as celebrant.
Christian Burial will follow at Aztec Community Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Arnold, Petey Chapman, David Cruz, Bert Fierro, Ramona Griego, Chris Keil, Rick Martinez, James Mascarenas, Terrance Maurer and Cory Woolery. Honorary pallbearers include Leo Ferran, Jimmy Griego, Francis Lucero, Jimmy Tafoya, Bobby Trujillo, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 S. Main, (505) 334-9332.
