Kathleen Brumm was the youngest child of the family of Oliver "Clayton" Brumm (1892-1965) and Bertha Leota (Lett) Brumm (1893-1953). She grew up in Mediapolis, Iowa, and graduated from high school there in 1947. She married Alfred Clayton "Al" Erickson (1929-2000), a native of Michigan, on June 17, 1950, at Mediapolis, and lived in several locations with him as they raised their three children, Eric, Kirk, and Katrina. Still in her 40s, she was diagnosed with brain cancer and died of it of February 28, 1978. Her cremains were buried at Kossuth Cemetery near Mediapolis.
