Boyd Wendell Brumm, the second of three sons of the family of Oliver "Clayton" Brumm (1892-1965) and Bertha Leota (Lett) Brumm (1893-1953), was born in Yellow Spring Township near Mediapolis, Iowa, and graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1940. As with most young men of that era, he joined the armed forces during World War II.
Boyd was stationed on a PT boat, attained the rank of Gunner's Mate 3C, and while on duty in the English Channel along the coast of France, he was killed August 9, 1944.
His remains were returned to his native Iowa after the end of the war, and he was buried at the Kossuth Cemetery near Mediapolis, alongside other family members, his funeral being July 17, 1948, in Mediapolis.
