He was born October 25, 1934, a son of Eugene Paul Bebeau and Aurore (Dumas) Bebeau.
After graduating from Hampton-Sydney College in 1956, where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity, and later obtaining his graduate degree in Charlottesville, Mr. Bebeau enjoyed a long career as a chemist in the textile industry, working with Fieldcrest Mills, Dan River Mills, and Burlington Industries.
Between college and graduate school, he served in the United States Army, where he graduated from the Army Language School (Russian) in Monterey, CA and served a tour in several Eastern European Countries.
Mr. Bebeau and his wife later owned and operated The Handy Shoppe for 16 years.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy (Pettigrew) Bebeau; a son, Jim Bebeau and his wife Kim Bolden Bebeau, of Danville; a brother, Dr. Eugene B. Bebeau, of Beaumont, TX; two sisters, Nancy Brunschwig, of Miami, FL and Gertrude Lowery, of Charles Town, WV; a grandson, Cooper Bebeau; and 16 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Edmund P. Bebeau.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 14, 2004 at 2:00 p.m., from the graveside, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, SC, by the Reverend Bruce Wilson.
The family requested memorial contributions be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541.
