ARTHUR W. STOKE

Arthur W. Stoke, 311 W. Chestnut ave., Altoona, died at his home at 8:45 p.m. yesterday after a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 25, 1898 at Altoona, a son of Warren and Viola Laird Stoke. He married ida Pauline Over. She died Nov. 22, 1963.

Surviving are three daughters, Miss Pauline, at home; Mrs. Jeanne Wagner, of Bald Eagle, and Mrs. Beverly Pascal, of New York City. A sister, Mrs. Rose Gathers, of Indiana, Pa., also survives.

He was a self-employed automotive mechanic but had been disabled for several years.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Carn Funeral Home, 2036 Broad ave., Altoona, followed by burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Blue Knob. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 3:30 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

(MY NOTE: Arthur is the son of George Warren and his 2nd wife Lilly F. Laird Stoke. His mother died when he was only 3 days old, at which time his grandmother Eva Rosanna Laird and Lilly's cousin, Viola Jane Laird moved in to the household to help raise the children. Viola became the 3rd wife of George Warren Stoke. He died in 1916 and Viola raised all of his children as her own. Although she is technically Arthur's step-mother, she was the only mother he would have ever known.)
