Dorris Morgan was born in Morgan county, Indiana, June 10, 1841. He came to Kansas when he was 14 years old and settled five miles southeast of Emporia in what has since become known as the Fowler neighborhood. He was married to Miss Isabelle Moore. Mrs. Fowler died September 9, 1921. Mr. Fowler enlisted in Company C of the 11th Kansas Infantry, March 1, 1864, and served throughout the remainder of the war. He was mustered out at Fort Riley. Mr. Fowler is one of Lyon County's oldest settlers, both in years of residence and age. He has been a farmer all of his life and a life-long member of theMethodist church. Among the battles in which he took part in the war was the Price raid at Lexington, Mo. Mr. Fowler has four children, Mrs. Homer Schaefer, Wilbur Fowler and John Fowler, of Emporia, and Perry Fowler, of Hollywood, Calif. He also has a sister, Mrs. Lethia Stack, of Emporia, and four grandchildren, Miss Helen Schaefer, Emporia, and Isabelle Fowler, Robert Fowler and Mrs. Irene Sterns, of Hollywood, Calif.

FUNERAL OF MR. FOWLER
Services for Dorris Fowler, Lyon county pioneer who died at his home southwest of Emporia Thursday afternoon, were held at the First Methodist church at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Rev. C. L. Hovgard, pastor of the church, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. J. E. Hopkins. A quartet composed of Mrs. W. W. Parker, Miss Mable Jacobs, E. J. Lewis and Rice E. Brown, sang accompanied by Mrs. Lewis. The pallbearers, six nephews of Mr. Fowler, were Slim Parker, George Fowler, Ernest Fowler, Fred Fowler, J. W. Fowler and Luther Fowler. Interment was in Hunt cemetery, east on Logan avenue.
Out of town persons who attended the funeral were Perry Fowler, of Fredonia; Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Fowler, of Dwight; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Albright, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Altaire and Harry Dale, of Kansas City; George Fowler, of Hutchinson; Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Berry, of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Evans, of El Reno, Okla. Dorris Fowler Dead
Dorris Fowler, 90, resident of Lyon county since 1855, died at 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon at his farm home southeast of Emporia in the Fowler neighborhood after a few days’ sickness. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the First Methodist church. Rev. C.L. Hovgrad, pastor of the church, will conduct the services and interment will be in the Hunt cemetery on East Logan avenue.
Dorris Fowler was born in Morgan county, Indiana, June 10, 1841. He came to Kansas 77 years ago with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Fowler. The family took a claim on a piece of land five miles southeast of Emporia in the neighborhood which has since become known by the family name. In reality there was no Emporia at that time, the town having not been laid out until two years later, in 1857. Dorris Fowler was one of the oldest persons in point of residence in the county, along with his sister, Mrs. Leatha Stack, and the Hiatt family.
The Neosho and Cottonwood valley at that time was one great stretch of rolling pasture land, except for a few pieces of broken ground where the white settlers had made their homes. Indians were numerous and made much trouble for the white people.
Mr. Fowler was married in 1871 to Miss Isabelle Moore. Mrs. Fowler died September 9, 1921. He is survived by four children, Mrs. Homer Schaefer, Wilbur Fowler and John Fowler, of Emporia, and Perry Fowler, of Fredonia; his sister, Mrs. Stack; five grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Mr. Fowler enlisted in Company C of the 11th Kansas Infantry, March 1, 1864, and served until the end of the Civil war. He was mustered out at Ft. Riley. Among the battles which he took part was the Price raid, at Lexington, Mo.
