Melvin Leroy Rhodes, 63, died Monday at 1:30 p.m. in his home, 305 E. Berkley Ave., after illness of a year.
A lifelong resident of Norfolk, he was a son of Charles Emmerson and Mrs. Annie Newman Rhodes. He was employed at Colonna Shipyard as a boilermaker.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. L.H. Robertson of Portsmouth, Mrs. M.H. Judd of Norfolk County, Mrs. George Siegrist, and Miss Ida L. Rhodes of Norfolk; three brothers, George E. Rhodes and Frank E. Rhodes of Norfolk and Henry R. Rhodes of South Norfolk.
A funeral service will be conducted in Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Wednesday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. R.G. Flaxman of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
