Saint Andrew Cemetery
Also known as Saint Andrews Ukrainian Cemetery
South Bound Brook, Somerset County, New Jersey, USA
Some of the monuments that are carved in Ukrainian script, may have an English translation or transliteration on the back. Symbols include; an asterisk * for date of birth and a cross + for date of death.
Holy Resurrection Mausoleum is located below St Andrew Memorial Church on the Metropolia Center grounds of the Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. The Memorial Church itself was built as a symbolic tombstone for all known and unknown and or destroyed graves, of those who died protecting their faith, their family, their Church, their community, their Homeland and or our United States of America. For those who died in battle, in concentration camps, in prisons. Those starved to death, executed, tortured, or even burned to death while worshipping in their village church or while they slept in their home. In their memory stands St Andrew Memorial Church (consecrated 10 Oct 1965), with St Andrew Cemetery (consecrated 26 Sep 1954), behind it. Intending to unite in one final resting place, all who were born in or of Ukrainian heritage with those in the diaspora. The Holy Resurrection Mausoleum was built into the foundation of the church, for use as the final resting place of active church members and leaders of the Ukrainian community. In the center crypt, beneath the alter and Chapel, rests the first Patriarch of Kyiv and All-Ukraine of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch Mstyslav I (see Memorial 209409293). In the surrounding rooms, is a small exibit about his life, and also crypts of those whose lives exemplified a dedication and devotion in service to His Holy Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
