Shortly after the first settlers arrived in this area in the mid 1860's, they established and built a Christian Church in the area where Mt. Pleasant Cemetery now stands. The log building was used as a schoolhouse during the week and a church on Sunday. The first minister was Rev. Allen W. Jackson who had recently arrived from Alabama with his brother and their two families, and the first schoolteacher was Miles Gibson Parker. Both are buried in this cemetery, and Rev. Jackson was the first burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Submitted by Jane P. McManus
