Wesleyan Cemetery has been moved several times. The locations are as follows:
#1 about 1840-1860. Opened about 1840 at Franklin & 23rd St.; included numerous slaves and free blacks. Very few, if any, records remain.
#2 about 1851-1878. Located at Laclede and Market Streets, west of Grand. During the Civil War, several hundred Union soldiers were buried there – they were later moved to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Abandoned in 1874, other graves were moved to the ‘New' Wesleyan Cemetery on Olive at Hanley in 1878.
#3 1878-1952. ‘New' Wesleyan Cemetery, SE corner Olive near Hanley, University City, Central Township. Cemetery closed in 1952; early Chinese-Americans in NW corner of cemetery whose remains were removed to China. About 800 burials were moved to Memorial Park Cemetery, about 150 to Bellefontaine Cemetery, any military were removed to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery; family members claimed ancestors for reburial.
Wesleyan Cemetery does not exist today. All bodies were removed from the last cemetery and went elsewhere. Today, the site is commercial property. There are records at the Saint Louis Genealogical Society
