Those buried here are primarily family members and former slaves of Melbourne SAXON (1816-1873). He was born in Claiborne County, Mississippi. His father was Joshua SAXON (1760-1817) and his mother was Medis INGRAM (1788-1844)who later married Ferdinand WADLINGTON in Kentucky.
For the SAXON CEMETERY.I have a publication from the Graves County Historical Society, Vol. I. The cemetery was copied in 1981. It is the better part of 3 pages of information. I have begun to list the people buried there.
The surnames other than SAXON are: CALHOUN, SKINNER, GREGORY, MCMASTERS, GIBSON, STIMSON & YOUNG.
My research efforts allowed me to post the 'bio' part of the web page on that branch of the SAXON family. Medis INGRAM SAXON; who remarried Ferdinand WADLINGTON in 1819 in Trigg County, Ky. I am writing today because it concerns the slaves listed in Joshua SAXON, Sr.'s will. I hope to help all others who descend from this family.
Eleven slaves were named in the will of 1817:
James & wife Hayz - who went back to Kentucky with the widow SAXON.
George went to Kentucky with the widow SAXON. He was to help James & Hayz until the minor sons reached the age of 14 then to be emancipated. The oldest Orville turned 14 in 1828. He died in 1840.
Joshua SAXON, Jr. who remained in Ms. was given Moses.
Samuel SAXON - eventually moved to Arkansas given Harry.
Charlotte SAXON INGRAM remained in Ms. was given Jane.
Orville SAXON - went to Ky with his mom, was given Nancy.
Melborne SAXON - went to Ky. with his mom, was given Phebe.
Lucinda SAXON MILLER - stayed in Ms. was given Delie to serve until the minor sons turned 14; then emancipated.
Clarinda SAXON ANDERSON - stayed in Ms. was given Pompey.
Rachel was sold.
